Hardinge Bridge A famous historical place in our Ishwardi

Hardinge Bridge Ishwardi  most Historical part of our city. This bridge is South side of Pakcy Railway station  in Ishwardi upazilla of Pabna District of Bangladesh. It is the longest railway  bridge in Bangladesh. This bridge construction began in 1909 and ended in 1915. The Eastern Bengal Railway Plans to built it for Railway communication Between East Bengal  Calcutta and Assam. There are two broad gauge Rail Line on this bridge. Now it Communicate Railway with south Bangle.


Hardinge Bridge is named after Lord Hardinge’s name.

This is Lord Harding(Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penshurst).He was the Viceroy and Governor-General of India from 1910 to 1916. He was the second son of Charles Hardinge, 2nd Viscount Hardinge

Location of Hardinge Bridge

It is locate in Pakshi union in Ishwardi upazila. This is a traditional establishment of our area. located on Padma river in Pakishi union, about 8 km south of Ishwardi upazilla headquarters. The Lalon Shah bridge is locate left side of this Bridge

History of Hardinge Bridge

The undivided Indian government proposed to build bridges over the Padma with the aim of facilitating connectivity with Assam, Tripura, Nagaland and North Bengal In 1889. British engineer Sir Robert Gayles took charge of building the bridge. The survey of construction of the bridge started in 1909. The construction of the dam is built on the two banks of Padma in 1910 to 1911. The construction of the guide bank of the bridge started. As well as construction of the bridge gardar started in 1912. 24 thousand workers worked hard for 5 years and completed the construction of the bridge in 1915.

Cost and Other Information of Hardinge Bridge

The cost of construction of the bridge was 32 million, 32 thousand 1 hundred and 64 rupees(Indian Rupee). The length of the bridge is 5,800 feet. The bridge has 15 spans. The number 12 span was damage during our liberation war in 1971 . Only the train moves through the bridge. Bangladesh Railway is responsible for the maintenance and security of the bridge. This Hardinge Bridge is completed in the centenary of construction in 2015.


So it is our pride. All of us Should take care of it and clean it properly.
